I found Joshua’s site while doing research on which sander to buy!! I ended up stumbling upon it out of curiosity about the current use for planes. Joshua’s youtube video of how to square wood with a hand plane came up. But the one comment that plunged me into the warm embrace of traditional woodworking was that a plane could get a better finish than sandpaper could. I was astounded and had to learn more.
I had been researching sanders for a coffee table project I had been planning. So I built the coffee table with all traditional hand tools and as much traditional joining as I could muster for a first time project.
Here are my end results. I think, all in all, the table came out nicely. If you would like to read about the extensive learning and saga of building this table (I started gathering traditional hand tools and supplies last November), I give a more detailed accounting at naturallifequestions.wordpress.com.
What do you think of my first attempt at traditional woodworking? (Please be gentle.)
