In this video Will Myers shows how to attach the slab top of a portable Moravian workbench using a historical method called blind pegging. Blind pegging utilizes cut off nails to accurately mark where holes for the dowels should be bored in both the slab top and the undercarriage of the workbench.
He also shows how to bore the holes to allow seasonal expansion and contraction in the workbench slab top, and how to shape the dowels for a perfect fit.
This tutorial is a free excerpt from the 7 hour video called “Building the Portable Moravian Workbench with Will Myers”, which you can purchase here as a DVD or here a High Definition Digital streaming and download version.
The video was filmed at Roy Underhill’s Woodwright’s School in Pittsboro, North Carolina. You can get free PDF plans for the Moravian workbench here.
