Forgive me for such a personal post, but I want to introduce you to the world’s newest traditional woodworker: Baby Ethan Farnsworth! (sorry about the cheesy video above, but it was fun to make). My beautiful wife Laura was a champ bringing such a big 10 pound baby boy into this world.
Baby Ethan gave us a scare when he came out not breathing, but an amazing hospital staff resuscitated him and nursed him back to health over the next week.
I know, I know, he looks more like an astronaut, but trust me…he will become a woodworker!
Here are a few more special photos of this huge baby who is destined to build beautiful furniture with handplanes and handsaws:
A very proud papa (for the 4th time):
Home from the hospital…
…and already a comedian:
If you send your congratulations below (in a comment) I’ll make sure I send it to Baby Ethan!

Congratulations! Enjoy every moment! B
Thanks for the kind wishes Byron, and we’ll certainly enjoy every moment!
Congratulations to you and your wife on the birth of Baby Ethan!
Thanks so much Vinit!
Thanks for your wishes from England Gary! I lived in the UK for two years, so your island and its people have a special place in my life.
I’m so happy to hear that you’ve also discovered this passion of traditional woodworking. And you are the kind of person that I built this website for…people who want to start from scratch and learn the basics and beyond. If you get involved on my new forum, you’ll find many guys who will be thrilled to help you make traditional woodworking your life!
Whoa! 10 pounds?
You’re gonna need to get another loan to feed that feller.
Congrats on the birth, Glad all is well.
Bill
Yeah Bill, my first boy was 11 pounds, so we’ve had plenty of food on the table for awhile now. Thanks!
Well Joshua, congratulations, you just discovered someone that brings more wild passion than traditional woodworking.
I would understand if we loose you…for sometime OK?
Blessings for this gorgeous baby, your wife, and the proud father!!
Ha, ha, actually this is my 4th child, so we’re pretty used to it now. But you’re right that my kids & wife are #1!
Congrats on the new addition. It looks like many miracles happened for him to be with you today. He looks good and healthy now. Hope he sticks with the craft.
You’re right Greg, many miracles indeed! Thanks for the comment.
Congratulations! I loved the video and definitely have to try his planing technique ;)
Being the first time father of a 2 month old baby girl, I understand your happiness and desire to share it with the rest of the world. Thankfully my wife and I didn’t have to go through a scary situation like yours, I can only imagine how difficult it must have been. So all the best for the future for your family!
Greetings from Germany,
Hanno
Yeah Hanno, I’d love to see your attempt at Ethan’s planing technique! Thanks for your kind wishes. Where in Germany are you from? I love traveling in Germany!
Hey Nikolaus,
Thanks for the warm wishes! Yup, it was totally a joke about Ethan being required to be a woodworker. Kids need to follow their passions!
Late to the party, but congratulations! Just discovered your site, a firm favourite already. Cheers, Ned
Glad you like it Mercurio! What “firm” likes my site? That’s gotta be a first!
