Watch one of my favorite free PBS episodes of The Woodwright’s Shop with Roy Underhill: “Grooves and splines make a tidy oak box. But—can we cut the joints just using hand tools? And do we want to?”

Skills taught in this episode: combination plane use, cutting grooves, miter joints with cross-grain spline,  marking & layout with a cutting gauge, miter box use, moving fillister plane, hand planing, gluing boxes, and back saw use.
