Have an old Delta lathe with dead cup center on tailstock. The quill has a male 1/2 inch keyed stub which the dead cup slides over and is secured with hex head screws. I want to convert to a live center, but can’t find any with 1/2 inch female hole, they are all Morse tapers. Is there a quill adapter that can transition from a 1/2 inch keyed shaft to a Morse taper receiver?

I’ve got a couple old Delta lathes, and have done some work on one of them, but I’m not a pro. Could you please post some photos so I better understand your issue? I’ve got old schematics of one of my lathes.

images of dead center and quill shaft with 1/2″ keyed stud for mounting

Hope these images can help. Not sure of threads on quill shaft. Maybe I could replace quill shaft with a new shaft with a Morse taper instead of a keyed stud to hold the cup center.
