    Hi,

The Stanley numbering system that starts with 12… is actually rather recent ( based on my personal time frame) so while such terms are subjective, I wouldn’t think of it as vintage. I am not familiar with the dates when Stanley went to this numbering system but none of my Stanley’s are that recent. Stanley’s have gone (is going?)through a period where the quality didn’t measure up to their previous efforts. Having said that, while this may never make it to super smoother status, there is no reason why (assuming no major damage or missing parts) it couldn’t be tuned for scrub or fore plane type work.

    Have fun
