How to Cut Rabbets with Hand Tools

Home/Posts/How to Cut Rabbets with Hand Tools

I’m excited to share a quick video tutorial about how to cut rabbet joints by hand, with a few simple hand tools. This method focuses on cutting rabbets along the grain, which is especially useful for cutting moldings (first step in using hollows & rounds molding planes), picture frames, etc.

Pretty neat trick tilting the plane like that to get started. The woodworker in the sash window video ( uses his chisel to create a similar groove to place his saw in at 3:37. I thought that was kind of clever as well. Great blog you have here :)
