In the above video, Bill Anderson gives an in-depth tutorial on how to refurbish an antique wood plane, specifically a wooden rabbet plane.
In this tutorial Bill uses a square and handplane to straighten a warped rabbet plane, which may have also been damaged in a house fire.
After creating a flat face and flat edge, square to the face, bill thicknesses the other face of the plane. He also reshapes the rabbet plane iron to fit the newly thicknessed rabbet plane.
Bill is a handplane expert, and an accomplished maker and restorer of wooden hand planes. His workshop is full of both wood planes and metal planes, and he teaches classes on making, refurbishing, and sharpening hand planes. See Bill’s classes at our school here.
